Food Bank Options

My name is Elizabeth Valla, I am the leader of the Scribner Food Bank and Scribner’s Economic Development Director…Let me preface this letter with this: I’ve tried every avenue possible, and this decision was not made lightly.

We care about our community and we try our hardest at taking care of our own.

Last year, when we started this food bank, it was amidst the peak of the pandemic, many people were out of work with no emergency funds, school events and sports were cancelled, along with vacations and any form of traveling, so I had a plethora of volunteers.

Since the initial shock of the pandemic, things look a little different. My faithful volunteers are spread so thin and are breaking their backs trying to work our food bank into their schedule, and because of this, we’ve understandably lost volunteers because jobs and life have picked back up. I’ve reached out to churches to see if they’d be interested but they’re in the same boat as we are.

After much deliberation, I’ve made the difficult decision to suspend the Scribner Food Bank. But this does not mean I haven’t made a plan.

The Lifehouse Food Pantry in Fremont is who has been so graciously providing all our resources, with pantry director, Susie Hicks, driving the food up each month. So all the paperwork you have previously filled out through the Scribner Food Bank, means you’ll also be good to go in Fremont.

Starting in June 2021, you are welcome to attend the Lifehouse Food Pantry in Fremont on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, located at 549 N. H Street (the corner of 6th & H).

-Tuesday 10am-2pm
